Dramatic Thriller “RISE” Rounds Out Cast

Los Angeles, Dec.12 2018. Sasha Morfaw (BLACK PANTHER), Jimmy Jean-Louis (CLAWS, HEROES) and Sufe Bradshaw (VEEP) have been cast in the upcoming film RISE, a dramatic thriller written by Maritte Go (PHOBIAS) and Broderick Engelhard. Go will direct as her first stand-alone feature film. Sydelle Noel (GLOW) and Peter Mensah (300) are also starring in the feature.

The film follows an eighteen year-old Nigerian princess, played by Morfaw, who, against all advice, allows herself to be kidnapped by the Boko Haram in a harrowing attempt to save her younger sister, eventually going head to head against the Boko Haram's most dangerous and calculating leader, played by the award-winning Jean-Louis.

The story is inspired by the real life conflict of the Nigerian people and the Boko Haram insurgency across West Africa as they continue to abduct hundreds of girls and women out of schools and enslave them in the sex trade. "As a victim of violence and a woman of color" director Go said, "I have always dreamt of making a film that empowers women and incites change. This is a story very close to my heart and in times like this I hope to make an impact with this film."

Eric B. Fleischman’s Defiant Studios is producing alongside Maurice Fadida of Kodiak Pictures. Mickey Gooch, Jr. and G.D.Guyer of Kodiak will serve as executive producers alongside André Druskeit of Telepool, as well as Kewku Mandela. The film will fall under the Telepool/Kodiak Slate with Defiant, which was announced earlier this year.

The film just wrapped production in Los Angeles and Ghana.
