Ike Meiers has given up treasure hunting ever since he lost his wife Maria in a rockslide. With their colleague André, the husband-and-wife team were hunting for a secret underground chapel dating back over a thousand years on the cliffs of Rügen Island. Since then, Ike has turned his back on archaeology and worried mostly about being a father to their daughter Krimhild, called Krimi. But eight years after the tragic accident, his past catches up to him when someone seems to have taken up the hunt for the Hoard of the Nibelung, a fabled treasure supposedly unearthed by Charlemagne 1200 years ago. When Ike's home is ransacked and his daughter discovers her mother did not die in a trafic accident, Ike resolves to take up the quest again. Along with his quirky techie assistant Justus and attractive museum curator Katharina, he begins to piece together the clues leading to the mythical treasure. Their rival in the search turns out to be wealthy tycoon Heinrich Brenner, who is dying a slow death and seeks the Hoard for the vial of dragon's blood it contains, which supposedly made Siegfried invulnerable and could save Brenner's life. Brenner has hired Ike's unscrupulous former partner André, who will stop at nothing to achieve archaelogical glory. As Krimi discovers what happened to her mom, she begins to blame Ike for her death, until they discover who was really behind it. And despite their initial dislike, Ike and Katharina begin to discover a less than professional interest in each other. Their chase leads them to some of the most fascinating and stunning locations of Mediaeval history, including the Cologne Cathedral, the Extern Stones of the Teutoburg Forest, and famed Neuschwanstein Castle. This exhilarating adventure about the myths and mysteries of the Dark Ages, with stunning production values and sensational locations, whisks the viewer away into a world of suspense and superstition.
